Hey everybody! I recently did a video on a few of my favorite meals right now. For the morning, I LOVE oatmeal. It’s a great breakfast for if you have a busy day ahead of you. Today, I thought I would share with you an instant oatmeal mix you can pre-make at home and take with you on-the-go.
Hope you enjoy! =)
Basic Oatmeal Mixture:
All you need are quick or instant rolled oats, powdered milk, oat bran, cinnamon, chia seeds, and few pinches of salt.
First add 2 cups of your quick or instant rolled oats to a large bowl.
For cooking at home I prefer steel cut oats, but for oatmeal on-the-go quick rolled oats is what we need.
Then measure out about a 1/4 cup of Powdered Milk and add it to the mix.
Next up add a 1/4 cup of Oat Bran.
Add in about 2 tablespoons of chia seeds or ground flax seeds. For this I’m using chia, but I do enjoy both of these amazingly beneficial ingredients.
Measure out a 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. This should start smelling pretty delicious right about now 🙂
Last, but not least, add a few dashes of salt (about a 3/8 teaspoon worth).
Mix, Mix, Mix!
There you have it. The perfect “base” recipe for Instant Oatmeal!
All that’s left to do is sweeten it!
If you like a more basic oatmeal go ahead and add about 4-6 tablespoons of a sweetener to the mix and you are good go (amount varies depending on the sweetener of your choice)!
For me, I prefer to sweeten with fruit and brown sugar. Check out my two favorite combinations below.
Blueberry Almond Instant Oatmeal:
You’ll need dried blueberries, brown sugar, sliced almonds, and the instant oatmeal base from above.
Toss in a good helping of dried blueberries to the instant oatmeal base. The amount is totally dependent on your liking!
Add some sliced almonds.
And finish it off with about 4-6 tablespoons of brown sugar.
Mix, Mix, Mix…. And there we have it; 6 servings of scrumptious Blueberry Almond Instant Oatmeal blend.
Apple Cinnamon Sugar Instant Oatmeal:
You’ll need dried apples, granulated sugar (you can use brown sugar if you prefer), cinnamon, and the instant oatmeal base from above.
Add a handful of chopped dried apples to the instant oatmeal base.
Premix 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon to make the perfect cinnamon sugar blend for this recipe. Add to the mix.
Mix it all up and you have a delicious Apple Cinnamon Sugar Instant Oatmeal blend.
BOILING WATER TECHNIQUE: In a bowl, add 1 part oatmeal, 2 parts boiling water, and stir. Let stand for 4-5 minutes to thicken. Give it a stir, and eat up!
MICROWAVE TECHNIQUE: Add 1 part oatmeal and 2 parts cold water to microwave safe bowl. (Allow plenty of room for the oatmeal to expand.)
For instant oats, cook uncovered on high for 1 minute, give it a stir, and eat up! For quick oats, cook on high for 2 minutes, let stand for 2 minutes, give it a stir, and enjoy.
(NOTE: All microwaves are different. Heating times may vary)
Hope you enjoyed this post!
Until next time.
