La Mer Dupe

March 25, 2015

I get offers for brand sponsorships on a daily basis. I usually ask the brand to send me the product, and I ask for a few weeks to test it out before I respond with an answer. I often ask for multiple products so my friends and family can try and give me their feedback as well.

For partnerships I usually try to be open minded, yet honest. There are a lot of factors that go into me choosing a brand to work with, but I generally say no to most offers.

I was introduced to a new product from Ponds and asked if I would be willing to take the 2 week anti-wrinkle challenge and post my anti wrinkle tips along with the product on my YouTube channel if I liked it.  I have been using more drugstore brands lately and there are definitely MANY treasures not ONLY in the skincare aisle, but also in the hair, nail, and makeup aisle. I decided it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try. Besides, both my grandmas have gorgeous skin and always swore by Ponds cold cream.

I think working at Nordstrom for so many years made me a bit of a package snob…Sounds horrible right? But don’t be fooled. There are some products at the drugstore that meet, or exceed, the products available at the department store.  In my opinion, this is one of them! With all this said, this post is NOT a sponsored post. I decided to share Ponds on my YouTube channel in a few weeks, and that post IS sponsored, however I am not AT ALL obligated to write this post.

I gotta say, I was pretty blown away by this stuff. It reminded me SOOO much of La Mer, except I actually liked it much better. I gave a jar of the Ponds cream to both my mom and my two friends. I asked them to give me their feedback on the cream and tell me what they honestly thought. Everyone gave the product glowing reviews! Even I, who am normally pretty skeptical, found this product to be spectacular. If someone ever asks me for a La Mer dupe, this will forever be my suggestion. La Mer is supposed to be the creme de la creme of nourishing and anti-wrinkle moisturizers. J Lo is said to use it all over her entire body for anti aging purposes. Both these creams have many of the same ingredients, but I think that Ponds delivers what La Mer claims to deliver and more. I saw a huge difference in my skin after two weeks of consistent use. It looked healthier, hydrated, plump and glowing. It’s one of the better face creams I’ve ever tried and you can’t beat the price point.

La Mer and Ponds also have very similar smells, but if you’re looking for a fragrance free option, I would stick to Cetaphil or CeraVe, which are always winners. The biggest difference is that La Mer is extremely rich and thick, almost like a whipped butter. It must be warmed in the hands for a moment before applying. La Mer starts at around $160. It was nice at first, but for the price I wasn’t blown away.

Ponds price point is about $8-12 depending on where you live. I think this it’s one of the skincare gems at the drugstore. It has a thick lotion feel, so it’s not as whipped and buttery as the La Mer cream, however I saw a bigger difference in my skin using the Ponds cream than I ever did using La Mer. Ponds never made me break out. Over time the La Mer cream did. I apply the cream all over my face, neck, and arms. For THAT price point, I could smear it all over my body and perhaps looks as good as J Lo?!  ;0) haha

Sure.. I tried to add more information to this post to clarify. Thanks for your constructive request. I’m still learning how to articulate and make my posts concise and helpful.

Oh I absolutely love La Mer, such a beautiful moisturizer and helped my problematic skin heal. I have had issues with eczema and extreme dehydration, but also rashes en break-outs. My skin is combo, but still, I love the thick consistency because it hydrates and calms my skin instantly when I put it on. I do use it at nighttime, not so much during the day. The price of a La Mer jar is ridiculous, but I still buy it because my skin loves it so much. I’m very curious about the Pond’s cream, it sounds amazing! I live in Europe so we don’t have Pond’s over here, but when I’m visiting the States this summer I will definitely take a look at Walmart or Target and see if I can find Pond’s!

Hi, do you know if I can buy POND’S in Europe, too?
    I hope so..

  • Leticia March 26, 2015 at 10:30 am

I am from Spain, Europe, and you can definitely buy Ponds there. As far as other European countries, I know for fact you can also buy it in Greece, and most likely all over the continent.

Thank you so much for this review. I know a ton of people rave about la mer and it’s nice to know there’s a comparable alternative. I will definitely be trying this out very soon.

Great post, do you think this product would be good on combo skin?

  • Flutra March 26, 2015 at 8:37 pm

Aside from the obvious price difference, this post did not really help me much in deciding which to purchase. I guess I will wait for your YouTube video to find out more information on the Ponds cream.

    • Talbott March 26, 2015 at 9:25 pm

What information would you like? =)

  • Belinda Del Pesco March 26, 2015 at 11:04 pm

After *all* the products you’ve tried – from high end to drug store – if you like the Ponds, that’s all the information I need. I completely trust your opinion. Ponds is on my list for the next shopping trip. Thanks for the review, and the photos of the texture/consistency.

I LOVE it! Please let me know your feedback once you’ve tried! =)

I love your skin care recommendations because of you I always use a cream with retinol (Ive been watching your videos for 3 years now and no wrinkles thank you!!!) and I have been loving it, everybody always says how young I look even though I am about to be 30!!! (sigh) and stress is always something I battle with and so far no wrinkles ( I would like a YouTube video on how you deal with stress :)) I will most def try this cream for my body and neck since I have not found a retinol body cream lol

Hi Rachel. I am a 57 year old women who is interested in an eye gel. There are several on the market but would like your suggestion. Of course, I have limited income so would like one that is reasonable and effective.
    Thank you
