I spent an evening gathering my thoughts, goals, and resolutions for the New Year. Something about writing it down helps me visualize and achieve the seamingly daunting. Here are just a few things that I hope to word towards for 2018.
Be A Better Planner & Communicator
I tend to get distracted, lose focus, and struggle with planning. I start off strong and then lose track of how to prioritize. I always have. When I would start school as a kid, I’d always be so organized and on it, and slowly drop off and lose that discipline. It’s a constant battle. I have always found some form of writing out my thoughts to be helpful in achieving more in one day and staying on track. Not only for personal goals, but for helping to run a smooth household.
I’ve always cared about my appearance. Was it sometimes vanity, sure. Let’s be honest, I like to feel pretty. I know that taking care of yourself goes beyond just the vanity though and I understand that even more now.
I’m thankful for this body, as it’s the only one I’ve been blessed with, and I want to do my best to take care of it. As life moves forward, as I age, a self-care routine really does lift the mood. It’s nice to take that me time. To manage my own body so I can care for my family to the best of my ability.
Honoring My Passion
A lot of you ask me about singing & music. If you didn’t already know a very basic history of my story; my mother is an elementary school music teacher, and my dad is a musician. He is currently touring with Ringo Starr & the band Toto. I grew up singing profesionally as a kid session singer for various small Disney projects, Nickelodeon, Power Rangers etc. haha I’ve just always loved to sing and make music. It’s honestly one of my biggest life passions, and has been ever since I could remember. I’ve written many songs over the years, but I’ve been experimenting a lot more with writing my own songs, more often, and very basic arranging in Logic Pro X. I have edited vocals in pro tools in the past, but I’m a bit intimidated by Pro Tools for arranging anything at the moment. My musicianship skills are a constant work in progress.. I do wish I had the time I had back in college to practice, and funny enough, I didn’t practice enough back then. I notice a huge difference when I practice, and sometimes I just can’t as much as I know I should to improve. I hardly practiced at all for most of my pregnancy, and after giving birth. I knew I had to get back into it, and not lose sight. I want to give myself the chance to actually learn a program that will help me have creative control over my self expression. I wanna challenge myself and curate more of my own music. I want to share this part of my journey with you, and for now I’ve been sharing a lot of my music room journey on insta stories.. I will do a tour of the room once I finish setting it up, but for now I’m just working out the kinks and making a conscious effort to honor my passion—even if it’s only for a few minutes a day. We have to push ourselves to do what we can, when we can, and as long as we try our best, that’s what matters.
Taking care of the blessings in my life is how I declare that I am grateful for them and don’t take them for granted. Even when my heart is to take excellent care of my things, reality hits and I’m not always on top of everything. I strive to work on my time management skills so I can take the best care possible, but also know that things happen and it’s ok if it’s not always perfect. Nothing is. The sooner we all accept this, the more we can enjoy the many nuences and flavors that life has to offer.
More Reflection & Prayer
I struggle on my own and I do draw strength from a higher power. I believe in God and I believe he hears our prayers. I love to pray in nature when I can, but I pray any time, anywhere. Sometimes it’s in my bed when I can’t sleep. I try to be as real and vulnerable as I can. I’m far from perfect. When I’m honest with God and myself I can repent & remove my ego, accept that I fail and make change and progress through His Grace. For me, this is something I strive to be better at every year that passes.
I would love to hear more about your 2018 goals and how you’re finding the time and strength to achieve them! Comment and let me know! I would love the inspiration and I hope I’ve inspired you too.
