my own mini retreat

It’s easy to get caught up in life. Watch a little too much news, read a bummer article online, or experience a real life disagreement, and you quickly realize that life can be draining. It’s hard to stay positive, inspired, and excited about life when the weight of the world is on your shoulders. I think it’s important to take moments in your week to give yourself a mini retreat. Find a hobby or something you enjoy doing that connects you with something calming and non stressful.

Here’s what I do:

Outdoor Workouts

I love working out in nature. Long hikes or biking session are my favorites, and we also love to take the baby and go as a family. It’s generally pretty warm here, but there are amazing workouts for the cold weather too. I think that getting out into nature in general is super important. Especially as the spring and summer months arrive, don’t forget to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. You may be surprised at how amazing you’ll feel afterwards, plus the sun will give you a dose of the mood boosting vitamin D.

 I always end up snapping a few pictures of natures beauty. How gorgeous is this flower we saw on the walk home from our hike?

 Before moving here, I had only ever been on a lake a handful of times in my life. Now that I live on a lake, I take full advantage of the fabulous opportunity it holds to get a killer workout. Kayaking is my new favorite hobby. Maybe you have a great steep walk with a view near your house, or a long pretty road to bike down. Look for the places you can go to enjoy a nice workout and beautiful view.

I LOVE fresh juice. I rarely do Starbucks or soda.  I’d much rather have a green juice. To me it’s like a special treat. I’ve been juicing since high school, and I just love it. I use the Breville, and make fresh juice whenever I’m needing a little pick me up. Ginger and lemon are common ingredients I use to juice, along with celery and apples. Yum..

I love to have fresh plants and flowers all throughout my home. I’ve always felt as though it brings such life to a home. I’ve really been enjoying our garden also. It feels amazing to grow your own herbs, and I’m hoping to continue to grow fruits and veggies for us to eat. I think there is something very special about growing your own organic fruits and veggies. Right now I’m using our mint plant to make fresh tea, smoothies, and garnish.

Spa Night

I LOVE a hot bubble bath or a detox salt bath with essential oils. A bath is a great way to relax and unwind. Don’t forget to download the Pandora app and get the “spa radio” station. It’s such a special treat.

    I’m standing in the cold waiting for a bus in London while I read this and feeling so much in need of some of that calm! You’ve given me the perfect idea to have a spa night, get the bath going with relaxing background music (there are lots on YouTube!) and an aromatherapy associates oil… Bliss! This bus better hurry up now 🙂

    How true is it! When I want to feel relaxed I like having a nice workout session then a hot shower, a manicure, a good book and some yummy tea 🙂
